Description:
Ethyl 1,3-dithiolane-2-carboxylate is a chiral carbonyl compound that has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of a variety of organic compounds. The asymmetric synthesis of this compound has been achieved using a desulfurization mediated by tertiary amines and catalytic amounts of copper salts. It has shown receptor activity against aldehydes and anions. This compound also reacts with enolates to form thioacetals, which can be further reacted to give chiral products.
