Description

Fluoro-2,3,4,5-tetrahydrocyclopenta[a]phenanthrene-3,4,17-triol is a fluorinated analogue of estradiol. It has been shown to have carcinogenic activity in hamsters and to be postulated as a carcinogen. The mechanism by which this occurs is not clear but may be due to its reactive aromatic hydroxylation and latency period. Fluoro-2,3,4,5-tetrahydrocyclopenta[a]phenanthrene-3,4,17-triol has also been found to have estrogenic effects on the kidney and other tissues at high doses. This compound has been shown to be metabolized by catechol-o-methyltransferase into 4-(2H)-Fluoroestra-1,3,5(10)-triene 3-[(1R)-1-(hydroxymethyl)ethyl]-17β
