Description:

For-Nle-Leu-Phe-Nle-Tyr-Lys-OH is an amino acid sequence that is a proteolytic fragment of the erythrocyte membrane protein band 3. It has been shown to be able to inhibit the activity of cytosolic calcium and actin filament polymerization, as well as inhibiting apoptosis in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNL). This compound has been found to be effective in preventing uptake of bacteria by neutrophils, which may be due to its ability to alter the pH gradient across the membrane and increase intracellular calcium levels. For-Nle-Leu-Phe-Nle-Tyr-Lys-OH also inhibits diacylglycerol synthesis, which may contribute to its antiinflammatory effects.
