Ferrocenecarboxamide is a synthetic molecule that has been shown to bind to the dopamine receptor and inhibit its function. It is also capable of binding to DNA duplexes, which may be due to its neutral ph and intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The redox potentials of ferrocenecarboxamide are dependent on the redox potentials of the nitrogen atoms in the molecule. Ferrocenecarboxamide has been synthesized by a number of methods including electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, but can also be synthesized using a number of chemical reactions. In this process, dopamine is oxidized via an electrochemical reaction with ferricyanide and ammonia.
