Fmoc-S-acetamidomethyl-D-cysteine is a cell labeling agent that can be used for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. It has been shown to bind specifically to prostate cells, and is taken up by these cells at a much higher rate than other cells. Fmoc-S-acetamidomethyl-D-cysteine is a metal chelator, which can be used to bind gadolinium ions. This allows for the detection of prostate cancer using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
