Fmoc-3-(2'-quinoyl)-L-alanine is a hydrophobic amino acid that belongs to the group of cyclopentyl amino acids. It is synthesized from the coupling of l-phenylalanine and trifluoroacetic acid chloride in a cross-coupling reaction with pentafluorophenylchloride (PFPC). This process produces Fmoc-3-(2'-quinoyl)-L-alanine as an amorphous solid. The synthesis starts with the chemical ligation of two pieces of polystyrene, one bearing the desired sequence and the other bearing a protected l-phenylalanine. These are then combined in an activator solution containing PFPC, which causes cross-coupling to occur between the two pieces, leading to the desired product.
