Fibrinogen gamma-chain dodecapeptide (FgGDP) is a synthetic drug that binds to the thrombin receptor and blocks the binding of thrombin to fibrinogen. FgGDP inhibits platelet aggregation by preventing the formation of prothrombinase complexes on the surface of erythrocytes. This drug has been shown to be effective in treating patients with unstable angina and acute myocardial infarction, as well as those undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. FgGDP is also used in research to study blood clots and their dissolution. FgGDP is not labeled for use in humans as it is an unlabeled biologic drug.
