4-Fluoro-L-glutamine is an amino acid that is a precursor for the synthesis of glutamate and glutathione. It is involved in aerobic glycolysis, which provides energy to cells. 4-Fluoro-L-glutamine is also important for the synthesis of protein in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. This compound has been shown to be useful as a treatment for cancer and other diseases, including T cell lymphomas, glioma patients, and cancer patients. 4-Fluoro-L-glutamine has been shown to have magnetic resonance spectroscopy properties that allow it to be used as a tumor marker. It binds to tumors via a number of mechanisms: (1) uptake by tumor cells; (2) binding to proteins found in tumor cells; and (3) binding to proteins found on the surface of tumor cells.
