6-Fluoro-1-benzothiophene is a selective 5-HT1A receptor antagonist. It has been shown to inhibit the reuptake of serotonin and increase levels of serotonin in the brain. This drug has been shown to have antidepressant effects in mice, with affinities for 5-HT1A receptors that are higher than those for other receptors. 6-Fluoro-1-benzothiophene is one of the most potent SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) antagonists that have been developed, with high affinities for 5-HT1A receptors.
