1-Fluoro-2-(phenylmethyl)benzene (1FPB) is a selective inhibitor of bacterial DNA gyrase that targets the enzyme's ATPase domain. 1FPB is active against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and sensitive to most strains of this bacteria. 1FPB has shown antimicrobial activity in vivo and in vitro. This compound was also shown to have an inhibitory effect on f-teda, which is an enzyme that promotes the transfer of amino acids from tRNA to polypeptide chains. 1FPB binds to the ATPase domain of the enzyme, preventing it from hydrolyzing ATP, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis.
