Product Information
Gramicidin A is a peptide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to the lipid II component of the peptidoglycan. This inhibition prevents polymerization of the peptidoglycan, which is required for bacterial cell division. Gramicidin A has been shown to have antibacterial efficacy against gram-positive bacteria and bowel disease due to its ability to inhibit proton-translocating ATPase in the bacteria's cytoplasmic membrane. It also has been shown to inhibit enzyme activities and channel activity in gram-negative bacteria. Gramicidin A can be used as a model system for studying hydrogen bonding interactions and transfer reactions, as well as thermodynamic data on biological systems.
