2-(Piperidinylamino)ethan-1-amine hydrochloride is a potent immunomodulator. It inhibits bacterial translocation from the intestine to the mesenteric lymph nodes and reduces the number of inflammatory cells in the intestine. 2-(Piperidinylamino)ethan-1-amine hydrochloride has also been shown to reduce bacterial translocation in mice with infectious colitis, which is caused by Shigella flexneri or Salmonella typhimurium. 2-(Piperidinylamino)ethan-1-amine hydrochloride binds to bacterial DNA gyrase and inhibits bacterial replication by inhibiting dna synthesis, protein synthesis, and cell division. This drug also binds to an effector protein, which may play a role in its immunomodulatory activities.
