Description

1-Hydroxy-3,4,5-trimethoxyxanthone is a natural compound that has been isolated from lichen species. It belongs to the class of flavonoids and has been shown to have antibacterial properties. 1-Hydroxy-3,4,5-trimethoxyxanthone inhibits bacterial growth by binding to bacterial DNA gyrase and inhibiting its activity. It also inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to ribosomes at the site of peptide bond formation. In addition, 1-hydroxy-3,4,5-trimethoxyxanthone may have antiinflammatory effects due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
