Description:

3-Hydroxy-4-methoxybenzyl alcohol is a metabolite of vanillic acid, an aldehyde that is produced by the oxidation of catecholamines. This compound has been shown to inhibit the activity of aldehyde oxidase, which converts aldehydes into acids. 3-Hydroxy-4-methoxybenzyl alcohol has also been shown to inhibit cellular dehydrogenase and protocatechuic aldehyde dehydrogenase activities, as well as inhibiting cellular metabolism.
