3-(3-Hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid is a dihydrochalcone that is found in lettuce. It can be used as an aglycone or with one or more sugar molecules to form glycosides, which are found in many plants. 3-(3-Hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid has been shown to have a low bioavailability and to inhibit the activity of bile acids. 3-(3-Hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid can be found in wastewater treatment systems, where it may act as an ecosystem pollutant. In addition, this compound shows antimicrobial properties and has been used for the treatment of wastewater.
