Hexarelin is a peptide hormone that increases the release of growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1 from the anterior pituitary gland. It has been shown to increase body mass index in humans with obesity. Hexarelin also has cardiac effects, including an increased heart rate and blood pressure. In toxicology studies, hexarelin has been shown to cause hepatic steatosis, metabolic disorders, bowel disease, and congestive heart failure. Hexarelin binds to pro-apoptotic proteins in cardiac muscle cells and mitochondria, leading to cell death by apoptosis. In addition, hexarelin increases blood sampling from the cardiac artery of humans.
