1-(2-Iodoethyl)-2-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazole (IEMN) is a nitroimidazole that binds to lipid nanoparticles. IEMN interacts with the blood vessel wall and inhibits cancer cell growth by inhibiting the synthesis of lipids. It has been shown to be a potent anti-cancer drug for use in diagnostic imaging, as well as in treating solid cancers. IEMN also has cytotoxic effects on cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of proteins required for cell division.
