Product Information
2-Iodobenzyl cyanide is a potassium thioacetate derivative that can be used as a catalyst for the conversion of aldehydes to imines. 2-Iodobenzyl cyanide is selective for the formation of imine products, which are less toxic and easier to remove from water than aldehyde products. This compound has been shown to catalyze high yields of imine formation in the presence of hydrogen cyanide with an environmentally benign catalyst system. It can also selectively convert aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes to their corresponding imines without affecting other functional groups. The isolated yields are high, with this reaction taking place at room temperature and atmospheric pressure.
