Description

L-Isoleucine benzyl ester 4-toluenesulfonate salt is a prodrug of l-isoleucine. It has been shown to increase the intestinal absorption of valacyclovir, a drug that is used to treat herpes simplex virus infections, by increasing its transport. L-Isoleucine benzyl ester 4-toluenesulfonate salt is converted to l-isoleucine in the intestine and binds to amino acid transporter proteins, which are responsible for transporting amino acids into cells. The affinity of this prodrug for these transporters is greater than that of l-amino acid homogenates, which increases its uptake. This prodrug is also activated by metoprolol and enhances the uptake of this β blocker.
