Description

Morniflumate is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has the ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins. It is a prodrug that undergoes hydrolysis by hydrochloric acid to form an active metabolite, mefenamic acid. Morniflumate is used for the treatment of chronic bronchitis, infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases. It has been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of cutaneous lesions and hydrogen bond formation in diabetic patients. Morniflumate has also been shown to have cox-2 inhibiting properties which may explain its efficacy in treating chronic arthritis.
Morniflumate inhibits the production of prostaglandins by blocking cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). This inhibition prevents the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins and thromboxanes, which are inflammatory mediators produced from arachidonic acid by
