- 2-(Methylsulfanyl)-4-(Tributylstannanyl)Pyrimidine
2-Methylthio-4-(tributylstannyl)pyrimidine is a synthetic heterocyclic compound that has been shown to be an inhibitor of bacterial growth. It has also been shown to inhibit the synthesis of guanine in DNA. 2-Methylthio-4-(tributylstannyl)pyrimidine is structurally similar to sulfamethoxazole, although it does not form a thiazolidine ring with the sulfur atom. This drug may act on bacterial ribonucleic acid (RNA) by preventing its synthesis and by inhibiting protein synthesis. 2-Methylthio-4-(tributylstannyl)pyrimidine binds to the ribosomal RNA of bacteria and inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. The nucleophilic nitrogen atoms are responsible for this binding.
