4-Methyl-7-trimethylsilyloxycoumarin is a fluorescent compound that is used in biochemical research. It can be used to determine protein concentrations, as well as to detect the presence of other chemicals. The fluorescence intensity of 4-methyl-7-trimethylsilyloxycoumarin increases in proportion to the concentration of amino acids and proteins. This product is also a substrate for hexamethylphosphoric acid (HMP) esterase, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of this product into 4-methylumbelliferyl and methylumbelliferyl. These compounds are then detected by measuring their fluorescence intensity with a fluorometer.
