Description

Maleic acid is a white solid that is soluble in water. Maleic acid is a transition metal compound that has the ability to form strong hydrogen bonds with other molecules, such as linolenic acid. Maleic acid also reacts quickly with glutathione disulfide to form an adduct, which can be identified by UV spectroscopy. Maleic acid can react with aromatic alcohols to form a stable adduct. Maleic acid has been shown to have high efficiency in glutamate uptake by endothelial cells and can be used as a uv-absorbing agent for plastics and rubbers. It is also used as an excipient for pharmaceutical drugs or as a water-soluble polymer for membranes in drug delivery systems.
