4-Methyl-2-pentenoic acid is an ansamycin that is the product of the ammonolysis of 2,4-pentadienoic acid. 4-Methyl-2-pentenoic acid has been shown to inhibit the biosynthesis of fatty acids in Myrothecium verrucaria and Mentagrophytes. It also inhibits photoisomerization in Trichophyton mentagrophytes and shift in T. rubrum. 4-Methyl-2-pentenoic acid has been shown to be a natural product that can be found in animals, such as cows and sheep.
