2-Methoxy-5-pyrimidinecarboxylic acid is a pyrimidine carboxylic acid, which can be labeled with 2-methoxy-5-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)benzene diazonium salt. It is the precursor for labeling of amino acids such as histidine and arginine. The labeling reaction consists of a condensation between the carboxyl group of 2-methoxy-5-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2yl)benzene diazonium salt and the amino group of the amino acid. The resultant product is a pyrimidine ring labeled with an alkyl group.
