Nitrogenistein is a naturally occurring compound that belongs to the class of isoflavones. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of nitric oxide synthase, which is an enzyme that produces nitric oxide, and thereby inhibits tumour growth. Nitrogenistein has also been shown to inhibit the expression of target genes by inhibiting hydroxyl group transfer reactions in pharmaceutical preparations and activating protein kinase C (PKC). Nitrogenistein displays a number of biological properties, including anti-inflammatory effects and the ability to inhibit cancer cell growth. This agent may be useful as a drug target for clinical oncology.
