Z-DL-norleucine is a chromatographic modifier that is used to increase the retention of hydrophobic compounds in reversed-phase HPLC. This compound has been found to be effective in the analysis of pyrrole derivatives and tobacco smoke condensates. It has also been shown to be an effective adsorbent for various other compounds, including unmodified peptides and proteins. It is not known to have any significant biological activity.
