4-(4-Nitro-Phenyl)-Piperidine (4NPP) is an asymmetric catalyst that has been used in the desymmetrization of diacylglycerols. This catalytic activity, along with its high specificity and high turnover number, makes 4NPP a promising candidate for use in industrial processes. 4NPP has also been shown to be a potent inhibitor of chiral amine oxidases and has been successfully used to inhibit the growth of resistant strains of bacteria.
