Nickel tetrafluoroborate hexahydrate is a nickel salt that has the formula NiBF4•6H2O. It is a white solid with a melting point of about 158 °C and a boiling point of about 290 °C. Nickel tetrafluoroborate hexahydrate can be used as an organic solvent and in the amination reaction to form quinoline derivatives. It can also be used in the synthesis of magnesium salts, which are useful for many different purposes, such as radiation shielding or pharmaceuticals. This compound has two chiral centers, one at each nitrogen atom. The two enantiomers have different chemical properties, such as melting points and solubility in water.
