Oxyntomodulin is a synthetic peptide that is used as an intestinal antigene. It has been shown to be effective for the treatment of acute pancreatitis, and has also been shown to reduce the amount of food consumed by dogs with chronic renal failure. Oxyntomodulin is a molecule composed of H-Lys-Arg-Asn-Lys-Asn-Asn-Ile-Ala. This peptide binds to haptens, which are substances capable of inducing antibodies in an animal, and can be detected using immunoassays. Oxyntomodulin is synthesized in porcine cells and purified using liquid chromatography techniques.
