Description:
N-alpha-Z-L-ornithine (NALO) is an amino acid with the chemical formula CHNO, which is also known as 2-(aminoethoxy)ethanol. It is used to synthesize peptides and proteins. NALO has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of arginine biosynthesis in E. coli and yeast cells, but not in mammalian cells. This inhibition leads to an accumulation of L-ornithine, which is necessary for the synthesis of polyamines that are important for cell growth and replication.
