This inhibition is biphasic and can be reversed by the addition of an excess of glutamate. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the release of neurotransmitters from the isolated heart, ganglia, and subesophageal ganglion. The sequence of H-Phe-Leu-Arg-Phe-NH2 acetate salt has been determined as carboxy terminal. The physiological effects of H-Phe-Leu-Arg-Phe-NH2 acetate salt are related to its receptor binding properties.
