Description

1,3-Propanediyl bismethanethiosulfonate is a biaryl amide that has been shown to be effective in vivo against inflammatory and cancer cells. The compound also inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes and inhibits messenger RNA (mRNA) synthesis. 1,3-Propanediyl bismethanethiosulfonate can be used to treat cancer by inhibiting DNA synthesis and cell division. This compound has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandin E2. 1,3-Propanediyl bismethanethiosulfonate has a number of chemical structures that render it fluorescent under ultraviolet light. The methyl ethyl group on this molecule absorbs light at wavelengths greater than 400 nm while the azides emit long wavelength fluorescence at 590 nm when excited with UV photons.
