Poly(propylene glycol) is a polymer of propylene glycol. Poly(propylene glycol) has an optimum concentration of 100 mg/mL and is metabolized by the liver. It is used as a solvent in pharmaceutical formulations, such as for blood sampling or the administration of drugs. The rate constant for the metabolism of poly(propylene glycol) was determined to be 5.6 min-1 using wild-type strain and monoethyl ethers from glycol ethers. The covalent linkages between propylene and propylene glycol are responsible for this metabolic response.
