Product Information
Pterodontic acid is a fluoroquinone compound that has been shown to be effective against influenza virus and other infectious diseases. Pterodontic acid inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α and IL-6, from macrophages by binding with the anthraquinone glycoside moiety. Pterodontic acid also inhibits the growth of human cancer cells in culture and has been shown to have radical scavenging activity. This compound has been shown to inhibit the replication of avian influenza A (H5N1) virus in cell culture. Pterodontic acid can interact with drugs that are metabolized by CYP450 enzymes, such as cyclosporin A, phenobarbital, or midazolam.
