L-Pyroglutamic acid 4-nitroanilide (4NPA) is an enzyme that belongs to the group of peptide hormones. It can be used as a substrate for the synthesis of L-glutamate and L-alanine. 4NPA has been shown to inhibit staphylococcus, which may be due to its ability to interfere with the enzymatic activity of this bacteria. Methods such as biochemical analysis, staining, and chromatographic techniques have been used to determine the activity of 4NPA in tissues. The optimum pH for 4NPA is 5.5, which is found in most tissues.
