3-Phenylisoxazole-5-carboxylic acid is an oxadiazole, which is a heterocyclic compound with two adjacent oxygen atoms. It can be synthesized by amide coupling or the ammonolysis of 3-phenylisoxazole-4-carboxylic acid. Oxadiazoles are used as starting materials for drugs such as carbapenems and cephalosporins, which are antibiotics that inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis. 3-Phenylisoxazole-5-carboxylic acid has been shown to be active against human glioblastoma cells in vitro. 3-Phenylisoxazole-5-carboxylic acid also has properties that make it a good candidate for use in drug design and development, including stability and low toxicity.
