Product Information
Perfluoro-tert-butyl iodide is a polyatomic molecule that has the general formula CF3I. It is a nucleophile and is used in organic synthesis. Perfluoro-tert-butyl iodide reacts with ethylene to form ethylene iodide, which can be purified by fractional distillation. It can also react with carbon tetrachloride to form 1,2-dichloroethane, which can be separated from the reaction mixture by distillation. The compound is a reagent for conversion of C-H bonds to C-C bonds and for converting nitro groups into nitroso groups. Perfluoro-tert-butyl iodide has a low melting point and does not react with water or common solvents at room temperature, making it an ideal reagent for reactions at room temperature or below. This chemical has been used in the synthesis of covid-19, a pandemic influenza drug.
