Description:
Ranalexin is a peptide antibiotic that has been isolated from the fungus Penicillium patulum. It is an antimicrobial peptide and has shown antibacterial efficacy against gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. Ranalexin binds to bacterial membrane receptors, leading to rapid cell death. The biological properties of ranalexin are still being studied in order to determine its mechanism of action.
