H-Ser-Pro-OH is a polypeptide that binds to microtubules and inhibits the synthesis of proteins by binding to DNA. H-Ser-Pro-OH has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis. It also binds with high affinity to the membrane of these bacteria. This compound has shown an optimum pH at around 5.5 and is activated by chloride ions. The sequence for this compound is Glu-His-Ser-Pro-OH.
Sodium hydroxide might be able to hydrolyze this peptide into its constituent amino acids; however, it would take a long time for this reaction to occur because H-Ser-Pro-OH is resistant to degradation by proteases. This peptide also has a basic protein structure and can bind with human serum albumin as well as gamma amin
