Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Leu-pNA is a synthetic substrate that can be used to determine lipolytic enzyme activity. It provides optimal activity at pH 8.0 and has an optimum of 4.5 mM phenylmethyl gallate (PMG). Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Leu-pNA has been shown to be hydrolyzed by soybean trypsin, protease activity, and proteolytic enzymes. This reaction also has an inhibitory effect on the serine protease thuringiensis, which is commonly found in the digestive system of insects.
