- Sodium Phosphinate Hydrate
Sodium hypophosphite monohydrate is an inorganic acid that is used for the treatment of wastewater. The antimicrobial activity of this compound is due to its ability to form polycarboxylic acids and fatty acids from the carboxyl group on the phosphorus atom. It can also react with citric acid to form a matrix effect, which prevents the growth of organisms by altering the surface tension of water. Sodium hypophosphite monohydrate has been shown to have a matrix effect in which it reacts with citric acid to form ester linkages, which prevent bacterial growth by altering water surface tension. This chemical also hydrolyzes under acidic conditions, generating hydroxyl groups, which will react with other compounds such as hydrochloric acid or diphenyl ethers. This reaction will release hydrogen ions and result in a decrease in pH.
