Description

Substance P-methyl ester is a diagnostic agent that binds to neurokinin-1 receptor. It is used in the diagnosis of chronic bronchitis and infectious diseases. Substance P-methyl ester has been shown to inhibit the binding of bradykinin to its receptor, which may indicate that it could be used for the treatment of asthma, acute respiratory distress syndrome, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The compound also inhibits bladder contraction, trigeminal nerve activity, and β-amino acid uptake in mouse hippocampal cells. This drug has a low potency and is not active against stenotrophomonas maltophilia.
