Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Arg-pNA is a serine protease that has been used as a surrogate to measure the activity of other proteases. This protein has been found to be activated by high salt concentrations and has inhibitory properties against cancer tissue. Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Arg-pNA inhibits growth factor production and stimulates phagocytosis in inflammatory diseases, which may be due to its ability to degrade cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα). Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Arg-pNA also inhibits the activity of neutral ph serine proteases, such as trypsin, chymotrypsin, and elastase.
