• Description: Succinimidyl-[4-(psoralen-8-yloxy)]butyrate (SMB) is a photoactive compound that has been used in the treatment of cancer. It is an analog of psoralen, which is able to produce DNA lesions in cells when exposed to UV light. When SMB is administered intravenously, it has been observed that it accumulates in lung cells and secretes proteins called cytokines, which are important for the repair and maintenance of lung tissue. In addition, SMB is shown to be active against influenza virus strains that have developed resistance to antiviral drugs.
