Product Information

Name:
Secretin, human
Synonyms:
  • C132H224N44O43
Description:

Secretin is a polypeptide hormone that is secreted by the cells of the endocrine pancreas in response to acidic chyme entering the duodenum. It has various physiological effects, including stimulation of pancreatic juice and bicarbonate secretion, and inhibition of gastric acid secretion. Secretin also regulates transcriptional activity. Secretin is involved in inflammatory bowel disease and infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and typhoid fever. The methyltransferase inhibitor, metoclopramide, has been shown to inhibit the release of secretin from pancreatic tissues. A monoclonal antibody against human secretin has been developed for use in detecting its presence in biological fluids such as blood or urine. This antibody can be used as a biomarker for bowel diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease or carcinoid syndrome.
