This compound is biosynthesized by bacteria from the alpha-terpineol or 2,2,3-trimethylcyclopentanone. The biological activity of (2,2,3-Trimethylcyclopent-3-en-1-yl)acetaldehyde has been investigated in cultures and in vitro studies on acid bacteria. The production of this compound was found to be stimulated by the presence of other terpenoids such as limonene and alpha pinene.
