2,2,3-Trimethylcyclopent-3-ene-1-ethanol is a bifunctional alkylating agent. It is used in the synthesis of α-pinene and other terpenes. The compound has been shown to be a homogeneous catalyst for the hydrolysis of esters and amides. This chemical can be used for kinetic studies and as an intermediate in organic syntheses. 2,2,3-Trimethylcyclopent-3-ene-1-ethanol has been shown to be a good photoelectron acceptor with an electron affinity of 2.8 eV and it can also absorb photons from the ultraviolet to the infrared wavelengths. It has a molecular weight of 122.17 daltons and an X-ray diffraction pattern that indicates a microcrystalline structure.
