Description:

p-Tolyl chlorothionoformate is a chemical with high specificity that reacts with nitrate ions to form the explosive cyclic compound azotetrazole. p-Tolyl chlorothionoformate is used as an ammonium nitrate substitute in the production of explosives. It has been shown to be highly specific, which is important for use in the food and pharmaceutical industries. This compound can react with ionizing radiation, such as x-rays, to produce a variety of compounds including trifluoride, carbon disulphide, and acrylonitrile. The titration method was used to measure the reaction rates of p-tolyl chlorothionoformate with nitrate ions at different concentrations. X-ray crystallographic studies were also conducted on this compound in order to determine its molecular structure and properties.
