Description:
2,2,2-Trifluoro-N-methyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)acetamide (MSTFA) is an organic solvent that is used for the extraction of hydroxylated fatty acids from human serum. MSTFA is a derivative of trifluoroacetic acid and can be used to extract hydroxylated fatty acids. The derivatization reaction mechanism involves a nucleophilic substitution reaction between the amine group on MSTFA and the hydroxyl group on the fatty acid. This reaction occurs in aqueous solution and is greatly influenced by pH. In order to remove matrix effects, such as ionic strength and pH, it is necessary to use dispersive solid phase extraction for sample preparation.
